Sometimes I swap sides of the camera

Most of the time you’ll find me behind a camera, producing stories, directing shoots and helping businesses figure out how to communicate their message more powerfully through video. But every so often, I swap sides of the camera, step onto a stage with a microphone in hand and honestly… I absolutely love it.

Last month I had the privilege of returning as MC for the Western NSW Business Awards for the second year running, and I’m already excited to be back again next year. These awards felt particularly special because they celebrate the region I now proudly call home. Being in a room full of passionate, hardworking and innovative regional businesses was such a reminder of the incredible talent we have outside the major cities.

One of the things I love most about being an MC is getting to help shape the energy of a room and celebrate people in real time. You see the nerves before an award is announced, the excitement when names are called and the emotion behind years of hard work finally being recognised. As someone who genuinely believes we don’t celebrate ourselves enough in business, being part of nights like this feels incredibly meaningful.

It also reminded me how powerful in-person events still are. In a world that’s increasingly digital, there’s something special about bringing people together in a room to connect, celebrate and share stories. Some of the best conversations, collaborations and opportunities still happen face-to-face, and I think that human connection matters more than ever right now.

So while I’ll probably always feel most at home behind the camera, every now and then stepping onto a stage and helping create an experience people remember is pretty special too.
