You never know what you’ll hear in the room

Last week I was at a Major Infrastructure Business Briefing here in Mudgee when I got talking to someone I’ve known for a while.

He asked me a perfectly reasonable question: given I don’t work in infrastructure, what had I actually got out of the meeting?

Quite a lot, as it happens.

During one of the presentations, a speaker mentioned that they were looking at recording their information sessions and turning them into online learning modules.

My ears immediately pricked up.

I’d already spoken to their team and discovered they hadn’t locked in a video production partner for the project yet. Suddenly, there was a conversation to be had.

It’s not often I find myself sitting in a room in my little regional town listening to someone describe a corporate video project that fits so neatly into what we do. Educational and training content has been part of our production work for years, and because I can mobilise trusted crews across multiple locations, we can create consistency even when the people, trainers or teams being filmed are spread across the country.

It was also a lovely reminder of something I’ve been talking about a lot this year: being in the room matters.

Not every opportunity arrives labelled as an opportunity. Sometimes it’s one sentence in a presentation. A conversation over coffee. A question from someone you already know.

You just have to be there — and be listening.

If your business has training, education or information that you’re delivering repeatedly, there may be an opportunity to turn that knowledge into video content that can work much harder for you.
