🤯 I got mentioned in Parliament…
Jul 01, 2025
This isn’t a sentence I ever expected to write…
But here we are:
I got mentioned in Parliament!
As part of a Community Recognition Statement, Dugald Saunders MP (no relation – though we Saunders do know how to get things done!) acknowledged the work behind our International Women’s Day 2025 event.
For context, these statements are read before the house to formally recognise the achievements of individuals or groups within the MP’s electorate. A huge honour — and a very humbling moment.
Here’s what makes it extra special…
As you might remember, Cyclone Alfred threw us a serious curveball.
Our fabulous speakers Shelly Horton and Lisa Cox were grounded up north and couldn’t make it down. But did that stop us? Absolutely not.
With a whole lot of Plan B energy, community spirit and a strong “let’s do this” attitude, we pulled together an event filled with heart, humour, and everything IWD is meant to be.
To have that resilience and determination recognised in Parliament?
Truly incredible.

🍾 A bottle of champagne in our fridge, with a post-it from my husband that simply reads:
“Mentioned in Parliament – this calls for bubbles”
And honestly, he’s right.
Moments like this don’t happen every day.
But they do happen when passionate, community-minded women keep showing up, rain or shine, cyclone or not.
To everyone who supported the event — thank you.
This recognition isn’t just for me — it’s for all of us who believe in showing up, lifting others, and creating meaningful moments of connection and celebration.
Here’s to many more of them.
