$36,000 I’ll never spend - and why I’m grateful for it
Sep 23, 2025The average Australian woman spends around $3,600 a year on hair care and grooming. That’s cuts, colouring, products and styling. Over 10 years, that’s more than $36,000.
Me? I spend that money on experiences, travel, and clothes that make me feel good.
On my recent flight home from the UK, I met Sammy at 35,000 ft. As we stood in the galley in our Qantas PJs, he asked me if I had alopecia or “the other thing.” I said alopecia. He said: “me too.” And just like that, we got on like a house on fire.
During our stopover in Singapore, I did a costume change (yes, I’m that person who loves dressing up in airports - hello Camilla coat on this occasion). As we walked to our gate, Sammy and I laughed about how much money we save having no hair.
No expensive hair appointments.
No expensive products.
No hair. No hassle.
But more importantly, we talked about how alopecia has made us more confident in ourselves. How it’s freed us from hiding. And how that confidence has sparked business growth, opened doors, and created opportunities we never could have imagined.
The moral? Opportunities arise when you step into your superpower.
Find your people. Have the conversation. Share the stories. Laugh hard.
And most of all - embrace the opportunities that come your way.
It’s exactly what I love to do in my mentoring - helping women uncover their superpower and then leverage it to benefit them and their business.
When you know what makes you different (and you own it unapologetically), the opportunities multiply.
So let me ask you: have you embraced your superpower yet?
