My Virtual Garage Sale (and the $5K challenge)

I’ve always been one to think outside the square.
Whether it’s in life, business, or finding a way to make things happen – I love doing things differently.
So when we recently found ourselves tidying up the garage (read: clearing out the three-bay horder-haven we somehow filled in under three years)… the plan was simple: list a few things on Facebook Marketplace and call it a day.
But then I thought… why not have a bit of fun with it?
Enter: the Virtual Garage Sale.
I popped up a post inside the local community group that said:
Virtual Garage Sale!
Doing something a bit different and holding a Virtual Garage Sale – here’s how it’ll work:
📸 I’ll post all the items as pictures with descriptions
🙌 Comment or DM your questions / wants
🏡 Pickup from Mudgee Town (address via DM)
I’ll be adding more pictures as we continue to sort and organise the garage 😀
(And I’ll remove the pictures once items are sold)
Then – just for funsies – I popped it up on my Instagram too.
And what do you know? It worked.
Within a few hours, we’d sold over $350 worth of stuff from the garage.
People were still buying from the post a week later.
Even a few interstate friends bought things through Instagram and organised pickup.
Best part?
It kicked off my personal challenge: the $5K Kitchen Fund.
I’m a BIG cook – it’s my happy place. But our current kitchen… not so much.
So I made a deal with my husband: if I could find an extra $5K, I could give the kitchen a basic (but beautiful!) refurb.
So far?
We’ve just cracked $2K in just three weeks – all from side hustles and creative thinking. The Virtual Garage Sale was just the beginning!
It’s amazing what can happen when you gamify your goals.
Clear out the clutter.
Put yourself out there.
Try something a little unconventional.
Because sometimes, the best results come from the ideas that start with: “what if I just tried this…”
